Special Education/IDEA Eligibility
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, also known as IDEA, is a federal law that gives eligible students with disabilities the right to receive special education services and assistance in school.
To be eligible for 504/Special Education and Related Services, a student with a disability must need instruction or service specially designed to meet the student’s unique needs based on that disability.
Note: Parents, Guardians, and Teachers have the right to request a special education evaluation for students at any time.
Who can request an evaluation for Special Education & Related Service?
If the school suspects that a student has a disability and a need for special education services, the school in collaboration with the parent or guardian must refer the student for a special education evaluation.
It is best to submit your request by filling out the Special Education and Related Service Request Form. Please contact Ms. Jackie at 713-747-5629 or email jareago@bmischool.org for more information.
If your child is pre-school age and not yet enrolled in school, email ngilbert@bmischool.org or contact Mrs. Gilbert on 713-747-5629 for more information.
