Leadership
Our Story
Educating Houston
Since 1966
BMI’s dedicated leaders work daily to provide our educators with the tools and guidance necessary to help students experience success in the classroom.
We are dedicated to having a leadership team working diligently to provide essential resources to help our institution shine. Every single decision made by our leadership team is made to secure the future of BMI and ensure that upcoming generations of pupils will have the opportunity to experience an education that will drive them to wonderful opportunities, as with previous generations.
B. Mayes
Alongside her late husband, Thomas Mayes, the two found Wonderland Educational Estate Association (Wonderland, Inc) in 1966. With a heart for the community, Mrs. Mayes and her husband began the task of solidifying the futures of young people through education.
She is the first national youth director and national president for National Women of Achievement (NWOA), a member of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), a member of Federate, a founding member of Saint Agnes Missionary Baptist Church, a diligent fundraiser for the NAACP, NWOA, and the Thomas Mayes Sr. Scholarship. Mrs. Mayes STANDS is the oldest living African American woman to have an educational institution in the City of Houston.
C. Mayes
Graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a BS in Electrical Engineering, Advanced Degree in Applied Science from SMU and a Master of Divinity concentrating in Biblical Languages from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
The passion for science, technology, engineering, and math has afforded Mr. Mayes the opportunity to work on the construction of the International Space Station. He worked for NASA as a certified level 3 engineer and flight controller for seven years. This same passion also allows him to play a role in the lives of the students at Beatrice Mayes Institute and Wonderland Private School. His goal is to develop competent and confident learners with the necessary skills and attitudes needed to succeed in life.
T. Watts
Graduated from Prairie View A&M Univeristy with a BBA in Accounting
With over 20 years of teaching experience, Mr. Watts joined BMI in 1994 and became CFO in 1995. He currently oversees the accounting, business support, financial planning and analysis, treasury, internal audit, and tax functions at Wonderland Educational.
Mr. Watts has continuously proven his ability to identify opportunities to improve performance, take on challenges, lead change, and implement new systems and processes along with business growth.
D. Johnson
Graduated from Central State University in 1998 with a BS in Elementary Education.
My journey at BMI began as a 4th and 5th grade reading teacher and eventually moved into educational leadership in 2011. I believe it is up to educators to foster a learning environment that allows students to grow both socially and academically. I take pride in my involvement in the molding of the young minds being developed on our campus daily and feel confident in the educational principles on which BMI was founded.
